Fanfic Pimping
Issue 1: Prelude to Legends: The Hyrule Fantasy
This is the first part of Fanfic Pimping, where I pimp fanfics (regardless of catergory and style) that strike my fancy and give them reviews. This first fanfic has been written by a good online friend of mine whose Zelda universe has inspired bits of my own Zelda fanfic, “Walk a Mile”. So let’s get on with the pimping.
Prelude to Legends and EGV’s Legend of Zelda universe are what can be described as Elseworlds. Shinigami-sama, aka Chris Blair, has plans to expand on the ten thousand year gap between Prelude to Legends and the main series. This is means it isn’t the universe put forth by Shigeru Miyamoto, but is an original creation in its own way.
This is the second version of the so-called “Mega-review” I promised Shinigami. Hopefully, he will be impressed and take me up on an offer I’m making at this point to do a guest chapter for “Plants in the City” (I mean, Lady Shadowcat of FFN is doing the flashback chapter “Merevas Mer” so I think I can make a trend out of this.)
There are seven parts of The Hyrule Fantasy and each are length chapters in their own right. While this does make reading THF seem like a daunting task, I found that the pacing was good right from the beginning and while much time passed while I was reading it I felt none had passed at all. To me, this is the sign of a great story. And trust me, I have read some lousy stories.
With THF, our author goes where no author has gone before and rewritten the celestial order for there to be four gods and one goddess of love. Trust me when I say this work and makes the story get an epic feel to it. Then there is Ganondorf, who goes from annoyance to major threat. For the sake of not spoiling you all, what he does is downright evil. Grrr, hiss, and all that.
The first chapter introduced Ganondorf, while the second introduces the hero. What got me was the so-called Sword Magnus barely appeared in the fic. This made the story more about the people who lived under five years of darkness. This made it about Celestia, princess of Hyrule, Regalas, the man searching for the sages, and other noteworthy characters. Mentioning them will mean spoilers, so I leave them for you to discover. As for me, I loved this cast dearly and look forward to further installments of Prelude to Legends.
Grade: A+
